The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows that the area of abnormally dry conditions has decreased significantly since last week’s map. All abnormally dry (D0) conditions are gone from the Carolinas and almost all of it is gone from Alabama. The small area of moderate drought (D1) in southern Georgia was also removed and the area of abnormally dry conditions reduced. Florida also saw reductions in moderate drought and to a lesser extent in abnormally dry conditions, although they received much less rain than the rest of the region. Wet conditions in the next week should continue to reduce the area of D0.
