I love to eat seafood, and shrimp is my favorite. Georgia shrimp are an important part of the food, culture and economy of the coast, but in recent years the catch has been threatened by a variety of things including black gill, a disease which does not affect the taste of the shrimp for us but makes the shrimp weaker and more prone to die off. Warmer water, such as we have seen in recent years, also affects the ability of the shrimp to thrive, and this is likely to continue in the future as the earth continues to warm up. How will this affect the future of Georgia’s shrimp? The Atlanta Journal-Constitution had an in-depth look at the issues surrounding this question here.
