One of the comments I get about climate modeling from people who don’t know much about them is how can we predict the climate 100 years from now when we can’t even get the weather right two weeks from now. Really, climate and weather models are built quite differently and while there are some similarities, it is like comparing a Ferrari to a Ford F250. They both have four wheels and an engine, but they are built to do different things. A Ferrari is built to look good and go fast, like a weather model, which has to get the details right and do it quickly. A climate model is more like a Ford, built to go for a long time and haul heavy loads. Some people might say they look good too, but not in quite the same way as the sports car. Here is an article which provides more details about the differences from the University of Arizona at https://www.climas.arizona.edu/blog/climate-models-versus-weather-models-different-approaches-different-needs.
