Trend magazine produced an interesting map of the earth this week showing where water is being gained or lost using microgravity measurements from satellites. It shows that some areas of the world like the Central Valley of California are losing water due to groundwater depletion, while the big ice sheet of Greenland is losing water due to melting of the extensive ice there. Other areas, especially in high latitudes, are seeing increasing water due to more rainfall as temperatures get warmer.
