As the remains of Hurricane Michael moves northeast out of Georgia and into South Carolina, and later today, North Carolina and Virginia, producers will get a first look at the damage caused by winds of up to 155 mph along the coast. The pictures I’ve seen so far aren’t pretty, with groves of tree snapped like matchsticks. They will be worse today. The process of assessing the costs of a storm like Michael or Florence take time to do. Here is a story from The Packer about sweet potato producers still dealing with determining the costs of the rainfall from Florence. And they will get more rain today. If you are still in the path of Michael, stay safe and dry. Feel free to drop me a line to tell me what impacts you have seen from the storm at pknox@uga.edu.
