This week’s 7-day QPF map shows that a lot of rain is expected along the path of what should be Major Hurricane Florence if it hits the East Coast as is currently forecast. However, keep in mind that the forecasts this far out are subject to a considerable amount of uncertainty and the area of heaviest rain will follow the eventual path of the storm, wherever it goes. If you are along the East Coast anywhere that Florence might hit, you should be prepared for flooding rain, high winds and the possibility of small tornadoes, plus coastal flooding if you live near the ocean or waterways connected to the ocean. Areas away from the path of Florence could see drier than usual conditions due to sinking air around the storm, but those areas too depend on where the path of the storm is.

Florence will hit late in the week. If you live in North Carolina or Virginia, you could also be affected earlier this week by the remains of Tropical Storm Gordon, which will be moving through the Ohio River Valley over the next few days, bringing flooding to that region and areas just to the south of it.
