With a juicy hurricane headed towards the Southeast right now, it is hard to think about drought. However, up until now we have had fairly dry conditions across the region, and there are still some pockets of moderate drought and abnormally dry conditions. In Alabama, the area of moderate drought expanded, while the moderate drought in South Carolina slightly decreased. With the rainfall from Hurricane Florence coming in, I expect that the drought and dry conditions in the Carolinas and Georgia may be eliminated but it is unlikely that rainfall from Florence will make it far enough west to alleviate dry conditions in Alabama.
