Since today is the last day of August and of summer 2018, I thought I would take a quick preliminary look at the climate of the past three months. As you can see from the High Plains Regional Climate Center maps below, in August temperatures were variable across the region, with the warmest temperatures along the Atlantic coast, including most of the Florida peninsula, and were the hottest in eastern NC and Virginia. Rainfall was plentiful in many areas of the region in August, but dry conditions were felt in South Carolina and eastern Georgia as well as most of the Florida peninsula. For the summer, most of the region was above normal in temperature, although a lot of that was due to warm nights, not warm days. Rainfall in most of the region was well above normal but with pockets of dry conditions in parts of the Carolinas, Alabama, and southern Florida.
