While we had a lot of cold weather in the eastern US this past winter, out west they had warm and dry conditions (the third warmest on record). One of the biggest impacts of this weather was to ski resorts, who lost a lot of business because they did not receive much snow. The results for resorts which depend on natural snow was devastating, with major losses in business income. Resorts that were able to make snow had more success even though warm temperatures made snow-making more difficult. Outside magazine has an article about this disappointing snow season at https://www.outsideonline.com/2310791/winter-really-was-bad-everyone-thought.
