The USDA Climate Hubs recently published a paper describing the results of a survey of their field agents and how they are dealing with increases in extreme weather and changes in climate over recent decades. You can read more information about the report at https://www.climatehubs.oce.usda.gov/hubs/topic/usda-field-staff-surveys. According to that page, “In order to better support NRCS and FSA in their climate and weather information needs, the Climate Hubs developed and administered two surveys to determine, (a) the level of knowledge about climate change that NRCS and FSA field staff possess, (b) the degree to which those field staffs are comfortable, or confident supporting farmers and ranchers on climate resiliency, and (c) the climate and weather stressors and related impacts about which service providers are most concerned.” As you might expect, the number one concern of those surveyed was how to deal with increases in drought.
