Even though the end of 2017 ended with an Arctic blast, the year overall was one of the top five warmest on record for most of the Southeast, helped by a warm winter early in the year and above normal temperatures in most months (even December). Precipitation varied across the region, with some areas receiving above normal rainfall, especially where tropical storms crossed, and others receiving less than normal, which helped contribute to the development of moderate drought late in the year.
