One of the things that weather events of the past month have taught us is that our society is not prepared to deal with extreme weather that we already know from experience is happening now.  Over 60 inches of rain near Beaumont TX in just a couple of days! Winds of 185 mph in Puerto Rico! How can we be prepared for what might happen in the future (whatever it is) if we can’t even handle current extreme weather?

Cliff Mass discusses this in his blog post this week at https://cliffmass.blogspot.com/2017/09/resilience-to-extreme-weather-and.html.  While he is based in Washington state and some of his discussion is based on the Pacific Northwest, I think in general it provides some good perspective on this question and how we in the US should work together to become more prepared for extreme weather of all kinds.
