Late in June the New York Times reported that scientists measuring the carbon dioxide of the atmosphere have found a troubling trend–even though emissions of CO2 have leveled off globally, the carbon dioxide content of the atmosphere is continuing to rise.  This makes the scientists wonder where the rising CO2 is coming from.  Is the ocean absorbing less, or are arctic soils emitting more as the permafrost melts? Or is there some other source that is not being accounted for?  You can read more about it here.

A separate article in the Washington Post indicates that getting rid of the excess carbon in the atmosphere is probably going to be harder than expected.  There is not enough land available to plant enough forests, and other technologies are not tested and have their own problems.  You can read their article here.
