In 2004 a tornado associated with Hurricane Ivan hit Athens, GA, hundreds of miles away from the center of the storm.  You may be surprised to know that many hurricanes have tornadoes associated with them, both in the spiral arms outside of the center of the storm and in the eye wall.  Most of them are F0 or F1 weak tornadoes but occasionally they are stronger. Earlier this month the Weather Channel posted a list of the top five hurricanes by the number of tornadoes they produced.  Three of the top five affected the Southeast directly. Which do you think was #1? You can read it at https://weather.com/storms/hurricane/news/hurricanes-most-tornadoes-atlantic-basin.
