NOAA’s 2017 Hurricane Season Awareness Webinars

 

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Southeast and Caribbean Regional Collaboration Team (SECART) is hosting a webinar series in advance of the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

Registering once for the webinar series will allow you access to all sessions.

1. Storm Surge Warnings and Graphics on Tuesday May 9, 2017 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM EDT.

Speaker Robbie Berg (Hurricane Specialist, National Hurricane Center (NHC) will show how National Weather Service (NWS) storm surge forecasts are made. He will also describe and provide examples of new real-time storm surge products including the new NWS Storm Surge Watch and Warning debuting this season.

2. NHC and Local NWS Offices Overview of New Products and Services on Tuesday May 23, 2017 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM EDT.

Speaker Dan Brown (Senior Hurricane Specialist, NHC) and Matt Moreland (Meteorologist-in-charge, NWS Weather Forecast Office (WFO), Key West, FL) will discuss new NHC products and services. These products include a new NWS Storm Surge Watch and Warning and the NWS capability to issue advisories and tropical storm and hurricane watches and warnings for systems not yet a tropical cyclone but that pose an imminent threat to land.

3. Hurricane Inland Flooding – Risks and Warnings on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM EDT.

Speaker Dr. David Novak (Director, Weather Prediction Center), Paula Cognitore (Hydrologist, NWS Southeast River Forecast Center) and Richard Bandy (Meteorologist-in-charge NWS WFO Newport/Morehead City, NC) will focus on the threat of inland flooding from rainfall associated with tropical storms and hurricanes.
