NOAA’s latest monthly global climate summary for April 2017 was released this week.  It shows that this past April was the second warmest since records began in 1880 for the globe.  It also marked the 388th consecutive month that the globally-averaged temperature across the world’s land and ocean surfaces was nominally above the 20th century average. December 1984 was the last time a monthly temperature was below average at -0.09°C.  It was also the second-highest year to date temperature for the same period.  You can read NOAA’s report at https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/global/201704 or an article in Weather Underground here along with a summary of other climate parameters like sea ice extent.
