At halfway through the month, the preliminary climate statistics maps from the High Plains Regional Climate Center show that temperatures in many parts of the region are running a little below normal.  If this continues, Georgia will see its first below-normal month since January 2016.  But with temperatures expected to be above-normal this week, we will have to wait and see how the month falls out.  Temperatures in Florida, on the other hand, have been above normal, which may be part of the reason the drought has been expanding there.

The map of precipitation percent of normal shows how spotty the rainfall this month has been, with some areas very dry while others are much above normal.  The next seven days are expected to be dry, so that will move everywhere on the map towards drier values.  The last week of the month is showing some signs of being cooler and wetter than normal, so this will add more uncertainty to what the final monthly values may be like.
