James Spann pointed out in his blog today that it is Day 52 of no rain in the Birmingham AL area.  This ties the record from 1924, and they will break the record tomorrow since no rain is forecast.  In fact, if you look down the pike, there is no rain in the forecast until about November 18-19 (depending on where you are in the Southeast).  A ten-day forecast is not very accurate, so even this does not give much hope.  The  next Drought Monitor is released tomorrow and I expect it will show worsening conditions across Georgia and Alabama.

Here is a satellite image which shows the smoke plumes from fires around the region today, blowing south, from Matt Daniel WMAZ.  Don’t start any fires under these terrible conditions!
