Upcoming forestry events

The Southern Region Extension Forestry folks have posted reminders of two upcoming forestry workshops on their Facebook page today.

The Appalachian Wood Energy Innovations conference will be held August 24-26 in Asheville NC.  Here’s the description from their event webpage: “Participants attending this event will hear from industry, federal agency and university experts on woody biomass policies and incentives, research and pilot projects underway, supply chain challenges, environmental impacts and benefits, and market development opportunities for using  wood as an energy source or bioproduct in the Appalachian Region.”  If you want to go, check it out right away at http://www.cvent.com/events/appalachian-wood-energy-innovations-conference/event-summary-897a37e6f1524b94888f27842e543f95.aspx.

The Forest Products Society in conjunction with Mississippi State University is offering an Introduction to Wood Science and Forest Products course, scheduled for September 26 – 28, 2016, at Mississippi State University’s Department of Sustainable Bioproducts, Starkville, MS.   The three day course will feature sessions on the basics of wood and wood-based products in construction, wood and the environment, product properties, wood anatomy and other topics. The course is targeted to suppliers, consultants, claims agents and industry professionals seeking to understand trees, harvesting and how wood is processed into today’s products.  Registration fees go up after August 11.  See more at http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/render?m=1102546510520&ca=c9cada10-e9f0-40ed-8266-6072c4ee089f.
