The latest Drought Monitor, released this morning, indicates an expansion of extreme drought in the Atlanta metro region, but otherwise slight decreases or no change in the Southeast. Cooler temperatures which are expected to return to the area this weekend should help reduce stress on plants and animals, but dry conditions are expected to continue for the next three months and most likely into late fall and winter as the expected La Niña develops over the next few months.
