NOAA released their annual “State of the Climate” report today for 2015, and it confirms that 2015 was the warmest year ever recorded on Earth.  This year’s warmth was helped by the strong El Niño which also warmed the Pacific Ocean.  You can read about it in NOAA’s Climate.gov newsletter here.  You can see a list of highlights of the report at https://www.climate.gov/news-features/features/2015-state-climate-highlights, or download the full report here.

One feature which got special mention in the NOAA newsletter was a new interactive map of extreme events, which you can find at https://www.climate.gov/news-features/featured-images/state-climate-extreme-events.  The newsletter also has a special feature on the massive changes that are being observed in marine life due to changes in the oceans, especially in polar regions.

Jason Samenow of the Washington Post published his list of the ten most startling facts about the report here.
