I’ve read several articles on fall recently that I have really enjoyed.  Since it is too wet to do much outside unless you have to (at least in my area), you might enjoy them too.

First, the State Climate Office of North Carolina did a nice explanation of the changing color of the leaves at https://climate.ncsu.edu/climateblog?id=159&h=5666e5c1.  Here is what they said about this year’s color show:

“The emergence of colors this year was slightly delayed because of our warm, dry summer, and persistent wet weather in late September and early October. In the weeks since then, cool, dry weather helped usher in the changing colors, which reached their peak in the mountains in mid-October before the first widespread freeze of the season on the 18th.”  I was up in far northeast Georgia last week and enjoyed the colors even though clouds and fog muted them somewhat.

Gizmodo discussed why we can smell the change in the seasons from summer to fall at https://gizmodo.com/why-do-we-smell-the-change-of-seasons-1735548623.  Both temperature and the changing vegetation may have something to do with it.

Finally, this piece from AgWeb on the joy of fall in the Pacific Northwest on a farm.  I love hearing about the seasons in other parts of the country, and this makes me want to go and visit.
