Rome Ethredge of Seminole County posted some pictures of the wheat harvest that is beginning in southwest Georgia this morning on his blog (link).  He pointed out that some of the crop has been affected by fusarium head blight, which reduces yields.

Dewey Lee, the UGA Extension agronomist, says that he has seen fields with a 50% loss of yield from this disease as well as tan spot.  In his latest posting at  https://georgiagraincrops.com/disease/yield-loss-expected-in-2015-small-grain-crop he points out that the plentiful rains helped contribute to the outbreak both by producing conditions ripe for infection but also because they prevented timely application of fungicide.
