The latest Drought Monitor report came out on Thursday and shows that most drought in the Southeast is gone due to recent rains.  Only a small area around Mobile Bay in AL is still showing moderate drought.  You can see the latest Drought Monitor at https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/Home/RegionalDroughtMonitor.aspx?southeast.  This often happens over the winter, when evaporation is low due to cold temperatures and most plants are dormant.

The new January outlook shows that overall for the Southeast, temperatures have a slightly increased chance of above normal conditions, while precipitation has an increased chance of above normal amounts in the western part of our region.  You can see the details in the maps below or visit https://www.cpc.noaa.gov for more information and maps at other time periods.  The second week of the month should be cold and mostly dry, but warmer conditions will return after that.
