The 7-day QPF forecast gives the Southeast a high likelihood of significant rains, especially in Alabama where drought has been growing over the last few weeks.  Rainfall amounts of greater than 4 inches may occur in isolated areas of northern Alabama, and rainfalls of over 1.5 inches should cover most of the state.  In Georgia, amounts will be lighter but all areas of the state should see some rain.  The severe drought that has developed in southwest Georgia and east central Alabama are in the area that are most likely to be affected by heavier rains, which should keep drought from expanding and may even reduce the drought severity.  Unfortunately, the rain may hinder farmers trying to get harvests done.  Severe weather is also expected in many areas of the Southeast early next week as a strong cold front passes through the area.
