The American Meteorological Society has recently released their annual report “Explaining Extreme Events of 2013 from a Climate Perspective”. In this report they analyze sixteen different extreme weather events for how often they were likely to happen as well as the economic impacts they caused. Part of their analysis was to determine whether the recent trends towards a warmer climate may have impacted the occurrence of the extreme event. You can down the complete report by clicking here. In 2013, the scientists found that the drought in California was not linked to climate change, the heat wave in Australia was enhanced by recent warming trends, and that the flooding in Boulder CO and surrounding areas is less likely to occur in the future under current trends in climate.
