Growing Georgia published an article earlier this week describing how cattle from the Southeast could repopulate the national cattle herd, which is at a 50-year low.  “The South accounts for only 17 percent of the herd today, but with advances in forages and relatively mild weather, the region might account for more of the country’s cattle in the future,” it was reported.  The article can be found by clicking here.  This will be discussed at the upcoming Auburn University Beef Conference scheduled for June 13-14.  Details for how to attend are in the article.  Cattle from the Southeast are also acclimatized to warmer temperatures, which might make them more marketable in the future as other areas of the country continue to warm up.
