Since I started with Extension in Cherokee County back in March I have had the pleasure of getting to work with and know the Master Gardeners here. These folks are a fun and diverse group that have experience living and working all over the world! While their backgrounds and experiences are broad and varied they are drawn together by a common interest in gardening and even stronger desire to share their knowledge and give back to Cherokee County in a positive way. Some of the ways they give back here in the county include: teaching at gardening seminars held regularly throughout the county, leading school garden programs, writing newspaper articles, organizing plant sales, and answering homeowner emails and phone calls about bugs, weeds, and plant problems.
The University of Georgia Master Gardener Extension Volunteer program is a great way to increase your gardening knowledge, meet interesting people, and give back to the community. Applications to become a Master Gardener are being accepted now until December 1st.
