A Fond Farwell from Jessica Warren, ANR Agent, Camden County
After almost 12 years serving as your extension agent, it is time for me to bid you adieu. As much as I have enjoyed my time in this position, a better offer has come along in the form of the opportunity to have as much time as possible with my impending firstborn – and to make the transition to parenthood less stressful and rushed for myself and my husband. It is a somewhat bittersweet, but exciting time. Though I am leaving my position, I am not leaving the community. I will still be serving on a handful of boards and committees and look forward to seeing you all out and about, however I will no longer be entertaining questions in the aisles of Lowe’s or at dinner with my family. Word of advice: you should refrain from doing that with the new agent as well.
My time with extension has been entertaining and educational. I could write a book of the crazy stories I’ve heard over the years, and I’ve taken great joy in seeing people open their minds and become passionate about various topics that I’ve taught about over the years that affect our coastal ecosystems. I’ll still be involved with the Georgia Green Landscape Stewards Program, so I’ll still be finding ways to teach about the value of native plants, the impacts of invasive plants, and the importance of coexisting with pollinators and wildlife.
I apologize that I have been negligent in writing articles lately. The last year or so has brought some challenges that required me to cut back on my workload a bit. My last working day is Friday May 30th. If you have extension questions in the space between my departure and hiring of someone new, the Camden County Extension Office is there to help and will get you in touch with another agent to assist you. You can email uge3039@uga.edu or call 912-576-3219. I wish you all the best and appreciate all the kindness and support that has been shown to me over the years. I will always look back on this chapter fondly (even after the pregnancy hormones have faded). Be good humans – to each other and other creatures.
