Camden County Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent, Jessica Warren, and McIntosh County 4-H Agent, Lauryn Gilmer, hosted the first Coastal Junior Naturalist Program July 17-21. Modeled after the Camden County Master Naturalist Program, the program aimed to educate youth ages 11-15 on natural resource issues and careers through interactive experiences. Participants visited Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, Jekyll Island, Altama Wildlife Management Area, Sapelo Island, and Cumberland Island National Seashore. Topics included land management, swamp ecology, wildlife and wildlife management, fisheries, marine biology, forestry, prescribed fire, native plants, and invasive species management. Special thanks to Coastal WildScapes who awarded $1000 to the program to offset costs for participants.
