{"id":356,"date":"2020-08-17T09:12:13","date_gmt":"2020-08-17T13:12:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/burkeag\/?p=356"},"modified":"2020-08-17T09:12:14","modified_gmt":"2020-08-17T13:12:14","slug":"army-worms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/burkeag\/army-worms\/","title":{"rendered":"Army Worms"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dealing with Army Worms &#8211; August 10, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dealing with Fall Armyworms<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s the time of year that fall armyworm questions have begun coming in pretty regular.\u00a0 By this time of year there have been several generations moving up from the south part of the state &amp; many have seen light moth flights result in isolated feeding in pastures &amp; hayfields.\u00a0 Most folks are pretty good at recognizing the distinctive inverted Y on the head of the armyworm, but, many forget that it can take a couple weeks for these caterpillars to get to that point.\u00a0 By this time, they are poised to begin the part of their lifecycle where they can do the most damage while feeding.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"456\" height=\"333\" src=\"\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a number of insecticides that will work well for control.\u00a0 The following chart from Dr. Lisa Baxter, UGA Extension Forage Specialist outlines some specific ones:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"989\" height=\"829\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/burkeag\/files\/2020\/08\/Army-Worms.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/burkeag\/files\/2020\/08\/Army-Worms.jpg 989w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/burkeag\/files\/2020\/08\/Army-Worms-300x251.jpg 300w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/burkeag\/files\/2020\/08\/Army-Worms-768x644.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 989px) 100vw, 989px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Be sure that you are checking fields regularly for armyworm infestations.&nbsp; If you need help assessing your situation, would like more information or want to learn how to scout for them, give me a call at the Burke Co.
