Peanuts-

What does warm weather with sporadic rains and humid conditions mean? It is very favorable for white mold growth. According to Dr. Bob Kemerait, UGA Extension Plant Pathologist, it is time to be aggressive and stop white mold spreading NOW! He goes on to say “this requires deploying a top white mold fungicide at an effective rate with enough spray volume to get it down in the canopy and subsequent rainfall or irrigation to further redistribute. Spraying at night when leaves are folded also helps. A lot.” We have several options for white mold sprays but the best thing is to hit it at the correct time and make sure it reaches the crown of the plant. Remember- losing 1,000 pounds of peanuts is more expensive than the cost of applying the fungicide.

Peanut Weed Control-

  • In the UGA Research trials, the residuals herbicides recommended at the appropriate rate have lasted longer than expected, even considering they have received an additional 3.5 inches of rain above average this year.
  • Adjustment to the recommended UGA recommended weed management  in peanuts might be an addition of Cobra or Ultra Blazer to the Cadre + 2,4DB + Dual Magnum POST treatment (Dr. Erik Prostko, UGA Extension Agronomy Weed Specialist) Remember- Cobra performs better on larger pigweeds than Ultra Blaze

Cotton- Wilted leaves on cotton? I don’t mean from too wet/too dry conditions. I am referring to Cotton Leaf Roll Dwarf Virus (CLRDV). If you see anything that looks like this picture in cotton, let us know.
