I know many of you currently use the Georgia Automated Environmental Monitoring\u00a0Network for local weather information. This is an excellent place to check soil temperature. It is recommended that the average daily soil temperature remain above 68\u00b0 F at the 4-inch depth\u00a0for 3 consecutive days and without cold temperatures in the forecast for the next week before making the decision to start planting peanut.<\/p>\n

There are many stations located throughout the state for you to receive information – Statesboro has a station. Choose which station is nearest you and then select the data from that station\u00a0you are interested in obtaining. Click here<\/a>\u00a0to go to the Georgia Automated Environmental Monitoring Network homepage.<\/p>\n

Each station monitors air temperature, relative humidity, rainfall, solar radiation, wind speed, wind direction, soil temperature at 2, 4, and 8 inch depths, atmospheric pressure, and soil moisture every 1 second. Data are summarized at 15 minute intervals and at midnight a daily summary is calculated. A microcomputer at the Georgia Experiment Station initiates telephone calls to each station periodically and downloads the recorded data.
