Aphids have really increased in numbers over the past week or so in many cotton fields in the county. However, I observed the cotton aphid fungus in a cotton field I visited today near Leefield. It looked like it was just getting started, so hopefully many of the fields with high aphid numbers will begin to crash. Some fields have been sprayed due to the discoloration of the terminals and the presence of aphids in the whole field instead of them being just in hot spots. You should be able to see the presence of gray, fuzzy aphid cadavers on the back side of cotton leaves in fields where the fungus is present (see picture below). Hopefully, the fungus will continue to build and aphid populations will crash soon.
