We all know that. How does it effect planting decisions? Short answer, a lot. Here’s my thoughts and what I could pull together.

Dusting in is probably a no-go right now. The rain forecast is very slim. It would be a gamble with germination, and a waste of any pre-emergent herbicides.

My personal opinion (based off of the conversations mentioned earlier). Focus on irrigated land, but be ready to pivot to dryland as soon as it rains. It would probably need to be over half an inch of a sustained rain to make any difference.

This applies to almost everything. Forages are going to suffer again until we get rain. Call us if you have questions on getting through this.

Bottom line. It would be very difficult to summarize a strategy for every crop in Brooks County. BUT, there are resources from UGA Extension to help in making the best decisions. Contact us, and I will continue to push them out.

Links to resources.

Talkin’ Cotton Podcast: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2350262/episodes/19027089

Peanut Team podcast: https://www.podbean.com/eas/pb-ettfc-1a960a9

Drought Monitor: https://www.drought.gov/drought-status-updates/drought-status-update-southeast-2026-04-16

Brooks County Extension Ag News 04/17/2026 Jacob Kalina ANR Agent (229) 305-6490 Thinking About Planting Over the last couple of weeks I have been doing a lot of thinking, talking to different specialists, talking to yall, and generally trying to come up with a recommendation for planting this year… It is going to be a […]

[1

post-1926","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
