{"id":1648,"date":"2017-06-21T23:46:18","date_gmt":"2017-06-22T03:46:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/brooksag\/?p=1648"},"modified":"2017-06-21T23:46:18","modified_gmt":"2017-06-22T03:46:18","slug":"update-asian-soybean-rust","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/brooksag\/2017\/06\/update-asian-soybean-rust\/","title":{"rendered":"Update &#8211; Asian Soybean Rust"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/brooksag\/files\/2014\/07\/asian-soybean-rust.png\" alt=\"asian soybean rust\" width=\"272\" height=\"311\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Just wanted to give you update on the 2017 monitoring for Asian Soybean Rust (ASR) in Sentinel plots. \u00a0 As of yesterday, <strong>Asian Soybean Rust was found on kudzu in Sentinel plots in Brooks County<\/strong>. \u00a0Kudzu is an alternative host for\u00a0<em>Phakopsora pachyrihizi,<\/em>\u00a0the fungus that causes Asian soybean rust. \u00a0Alternative hosts such as kudzu, Florida beggarweed, and iron clay peas, allow the disease to survive and spread. \u00a0The Georgia Commodity Commission, has once again, provided funding for the annual Rust Sentinel Plots program. \u00a0This monitoring program, has proved to be a very effective tool for early detection of ASR. \u00a0The reports generated from Soybean Rust Sentinel Plots allows soybean producers to receive notifications of ASR development and monitor spread of the disease.<\/p>\n<p>At this point management recommendations for ASR include;<\/p>\n<p>Begin fungicide applications once the crop reaches first bloom and if favorable weather persist, a second fungicide application should be applied within 2-4 weeks after the first fungicide spray. \u00a0Also remember that fungicides that include a mixture of products (SDHI, strobilurin, and triazole chemistries) provide a broader spectrum of activity against disease and a longer protective window. \u00a0Please call me if you have any additional questions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Table 1.\u00a0 Fungicides labeled for management of foliar diseases of soybean<strong>. \u00a0NOTE: Always read and follow the official label for use of these fungicides.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"409\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>C<\/strong><strong>HEMICAL AND FORMULATION\u00a0\u00a0 RATE PER ACRE<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"180\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>R<\/strong><strong>E<\/strong><strong>MAR<\/strong><strong>KS AND PRECAUTIONS<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"409\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Quadris 2.08F (azoxystrobin)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 6.2-15.4 fl oz\/A ( to include frog eye leaf spot and soybean rust)<\/td>\n<td rowspan=\"20\" width=\"180\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>N<\/strong><strong>o<\/strong><strong>t<\/strong><strong>e 1<\/strong>: Prior to the discovery of Aisan soybean rust in Georgia, foliar fungicides were not generally recommended on soybeans in the state. Result s of Georgia research on foliar fungicides have been extremely erratic. Before deciding to apply a fungicide, a grower should consider the current yield potential in the field and the potential for further disease spread.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>N<\/strong><strong>o<\/strong><strong>t<\/strong><strong>e 2: <\/strong>The presence of the Asian soybean rust in Georgia has greatly affected disease control recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>N<\/strong><strong>o<\/strong><strong>t<\/strong><strong>e 3: <\/strong>Asian soybean rust can develop vary rapidly in a field when enough spores are present and environmental conditions are favorable.
