{"id":877,"date":"2022-06-16T08:28:33","date_gmt":"2022-06-16T12:28:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/benhillcoag\/?p=877"},"modified":"2022-06-16T08:28:49","modified_gmt":"2022-06-16T12:28:49","slug":"row-crop-disease-update-june-16th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/benhillcoag\/2022\/06\/row-crop-disease-update-june-16th\/","title":{"rendered":"Row Crop Disease Update June 16th"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The &#8220;big&#8221; story in the world of row crop diseases in Georgia continues to be the equation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crop growth stage and development + very hot temperatures + dry with sporadic rainfall = disease risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the peanut crop, these conditions could mean that growers will continue to see death from Aspergillus crown rot even as the peanut plants put some size on them.&nbsp; Hot and dry soils help to fuel this disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hot and humid could bring on early outbreaks of white mold.\u00a0 <em>Sclerotium rolfsii<\/em>, the causal agent of white mold  gets an early start with warm soils and some moisture.\u00a0 Under hot and very dry conditions, we are increasingly likely to see &#8220;underground white mold&#8221; where the fungus and the disease wreak havoc just below the soil surface.
