{"id":817,"date":"2022-03-14T08:50:16","date_gmt":"2022-03-14T12:50:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/benhillcoag\/?p=817"},"modified":"2022-03-14T08:50:16","modified_gmt":"2022-03-14T12:50:16","slug":"row-crop-disease-update-corn-planting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/benhillcoag\/2022\/03\/row-crop-disease-update-corn-planting\/","title":{"rendered":"Row Crop Disease Update &#8211; Corn Planting"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By: Dr. Bob Kemerait<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In my wheelhouse, planting field corn is once again upon us, or soon will be.\u00a0 I know I get repetitive, but the message at this point is the same.\u00a0 Corn growers will have one chance to fight nematodes, IF they need to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Producers have ONE CHANCE to make a BEST decision.\u00a0 Using a nematicide where a grower doesn&#8217;t have a nematode problem is not a &#8220;best&#8221; decision.\u00a0 Using a nematicide where a grower DOES have a nematode problem IS a &#8220;best&#8221; decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Products growers may consider at this point for nematode control on corn include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Counter 20G (do not use with ALS herbicides)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Propulse (I do not recommend mixing with a starter fertilizer)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Velum (I do not recommend mixing with a starter fertilizer)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overland (abamectin, not enough data to recommend)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>At-plant fungicide<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Xyway LRF (flutriafol, applied in 2 X 2 pattern and NOT in-furrow directly on seed.&nbsp; This fungicide is marketed for season-long control of diseases like northern and southern corn leaf blights and grey leaf spot.&nbsp; I have not had the product in a trial where I had a problem with those diseases, so I am not sure it is true of not.&nbsp; FMC reports that Xyway can be mixed with starter fungicides.&nbsp; I have not done that work.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By: Dr. Bob Kemerait In my wheelhouse, planting field corn is once again upon us, or soon will be.\u00a0 I know I get repetitive, but the message at this point is the same.\u00a0 Corn growers will have one chance to fight nematodes, IF they need to.
