{"id":54,"date":"2018-03-22T10:33:19","date_gmt":"2018-03-22T14:33:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/benhillcoag\/?p=54"},"modified":"2018-03-22T10:33:19","modified_gmt":"2018-03-22T14:33:19","slug":"what-is-acuron-and-shieldex-herbicides","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/benhillcoag\/2018\/03\/what-is-acuron-and-shieldex-herbicides\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Acuron and Shieldex herbicides?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"post-body-1939672501234683674\" class=\"post-body entry-content\">Written By: Eric Prostko<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-body entry-content\">\n<b><u>\u00a0 What is ACURON herbicide?<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<table class=\"tr-caption-container\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"tr-caption\">\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Acuron, from Syngenta, is a mixture of s-metolachlor\u00a0+ atrazine\u00a0+ mesotrione\u00a0+ bycyclopyrone registered for use in field corn, seed corn, silage corn, sweet corn, and yellow popcorn.\u00a0 Acuron can be applied preemergence or postemergence depending upon the type of corn.\u00a0 I have tested Acuron for a number of years and it is a very good product.\u00a0 It would be especially useful to growers who are dealing with glyphosate, atrazine,\u00a0and\/or ALS resistant weeds.\u00a0 But in the absence of resistance, it&#8217;s very difficult to for most higher priced new herbicides to beat the cost-effectiveness of a timely postemergence application of\u00a0glyphosate\u00a0+ atrazine\u00a0+ Prowl tank-mixture in Georgia.\u00a0 \u00a0I do not have an exact figure but I have heard that Acuron is a bit pricey?<\/div>\n<div><u><b>\u00a0What is SHIELDEX herbicide?\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0<\/u><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Shieldex, from Summit Agro USA, contains the active ingredient topyralate.\u00a0 Shieldex is labeled for postemergence use in field corn, sweet corn, and popcorn.\u00a0 Shieldex has the same mode of action as several other corn herbicides such as Callisto (mesotrione), Impact (topramezone), and Laudis (tembotrione).\u00a0 All of these herbicides are HPPD inhibitors (WSSA MOA #27).\u00a0 There are 2 good reasons why Georgia corn farmers need not worry about this herbicide:\u00a0 1) it is not yet labeled in GA; and 2) I only have\u00a0<b>1 field trial<\/b>\u00a0with this product (i.e. not enough data to make a solid recommendation).<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Written By: Eric Prostko \u00a0 What is ACURON herbicide?
